Our Story

Like many in our field, we didn't set out to become fundraisers. Gloria picked up a phone program coordinator job at her alma mater within a year of graduation, sure that it would be a brief stop on her way to graduate school. Cameron took a four-hour deadline call from a director he'd never met, offering him a Call Center Manager role he hadn't applied for. Tyrell, a first-generation college student shaped by an Upward Bound program, found that the business principles he'd studied translated naturally into building donor relationships. Three different doorways into the same calling — and, eventually, into one another.

Cameron and Gloria first crossed paths in 2015 during a job interview that didn't pan out, and reconnected years later as colleagues at an annual giving conference. Cameron and Tyrell met virtually during the pandemic, drawn together by a shared interest in spotlighting the talent of Black annual giving professionals. That conversation grew into the Black Annual Giving Group — a listserv and Zoom community we built and still host together, and where we found a roster of practitioners doing some of the most innovative work in the field.

For a while, the idea of starting something together was a running joke. We had the experience. We saw the need. Then one day it stopped being a joke. Tyrell rallied us, and we set about getting it done.

We built WBH & Associates around three convictions. That annual giving — increasingly the engine of pipeline development — deserves the strategic investment it has long been denied. That high-quality consulting should be accessible and affordable for the organizations that need it most, not just the ones that can already afford it. And that the visible face of fundraising consulting should reflect the depth of talent already shaping the industry.

What we bring is complementary by design. Gloria is a tenured annual giving practitioner who never loses sight of the human connection at the center of every gift. Tyrell is an operations expert who turns vision into process and strategy into system. Cameron is a strategist and executive leader who reads an organization's culture and translates ambition into a workable plan. We respect what each of us brings, listen to one another honestly, and make decisions together.

Our promise to our clients is straightforward: in-depth listening, thorough analysis, and actionable recommendations grounded in real practitioner experience — delivered with the agility, integrity, and innovation our work demands. We measure our success the way you do: in scholarships funded, programs sustained, communities strengthened, and lives changed.

Fundraising, we believe, should be accessible, rewarding, and service-oriented. It should meet donors where they are. It should honor the relationships at the heart of philanthropy. And it should leave behind more than dollars raised: programs that outlast a campaign, principles that keep informing decisions, and people who carry the work forward.

That's the firm we're building. We're glad you're here.
